Depending on the economic viability, it is desirable to have intrusion alarm security (What's this ?,s12)
system covering all vulnerable points of possible intrusion into the shop.
 |
If there is a safe in the shop then it can be effectively covered by a PIR (What's this ?,s126) that is linked
to an alarm. This will raise the alarm in case anyone comes near the safe. |
 |
Intruder alarms
(What's this ?,s12) are one of the simplest
and most effective way of dealing with break-in. Such alarms fit on every
door/window and the external shutter and would raise an alarm to attract the
attention of the Guard/Passer-by in case of a break-in. Such alarms, coupled
with Auto-dialer (What's this ?,s45) can inform you also in
case of a break-in. In case you
have an alarm, then putting a notice on the front of the shop that you have an electronic alarm will
also deter a casual thief.

 |
All entry and exit points should be well lit or fitted with security lights
(What's this ?,s26) that are
switched on automatically whenever someone enters the area at night. |
 |
Windows should have bars or a firm grill specially those on the ground floor or those that are accessible
from outside. The bars or grill should not be screwed to the window frames but embedded into the wooden
window frame or welded to the metallic window frame. There are many more precautions that are applicable
as mentioned under Windows and Ventilators (What's this ?c31). |
 |
For more reliable and cost effective security especially for automatic detection of activities behind
closed doors, electronic gadgets are very helpful e.g. INTRUSION ALARMS (What's this ?,s12) AND SENSORS
(What's this ?), ULTRASONIC MOTION DETECTORS
(What's this ?,s123), CCTV (What's this ?,s20), VIBRATION
DETECTORS( What's this ?,s119), PRESSURE MAT
SENSORS (What's this ?,s120), CONTROL PANEL
(What's this ?). |
 |
In case you fear a hold-up then also an Auto-dialer (What's this ?,s45)
or Panic Button (What's this ?,s102)
can be a very useful equipment to
summon help without raising an alarm.

Common boundary wall or parapet wall on the terrace (i applicable) should be raised to 6ft. height and a barbed wire
overhang of 2.5 ft. so as to make a total height of 8.5 ft. There are many more precautions that are
applicable as mentioned under BOUNDARY/PERIMETER WALL (What's this ?c28).

Get the antecedents of your employees verified through the police or other reliable sources. Keep complete
details of their addresses, relatives, friends and contacts.
|
 |
Do not entrust the keys to employees and others in a way that they can get duplicates made. This
facilitates burglary as well as theft. Control on duplicate keys is as important as on the original.
|
Remember: Impression of a key can be taken on a soap cake or soft wax from which duplicate keys can be
prepared.
