Bar codes are a series of patterns of black lines
interspersed with white space. The thickness of lines and white spaces codify the
information. Such patterns are read by bar code readers. There are various standards of
bar codes that are internationally accepted. Around 10 such standard bar code patterns are
in vogue. Since bar codes can be duplicated, for high security requirement this technology
may not be the best option. However, by using a proprietary bar code algorithm one can
ensure better security.
Bar codes are regularly used in super markets and are becoming a standard on various items
to specify the price and product code. Bar codes are not much used for security
application except where cost is a limitation. |
