The common cause of equipment failure is the temperature build-up inside the enclosures. Specailly in case of computer/networking racks, the temperature inside the racks may be much higher than the temperature outside, and this leads to a false sense of comfort, resulting in equipment failure.
Keeping the above in mind, we have designed a unique low cost Temperature Alarm without display that raises the alarm as soon as the temperature goes beyond the pre-set limit. The system comes with an attached buzzer (and a LED) as well as can be connected to a Network Monitoring System. What's more, the alarms from multiple racks can be wired together to give a common alarm output at a distant monitoring location.
And yes, keeping the cost of Rack space in mind, our Alarm is very compact (3.5"x3"x8") and can be mounted on any of the Rails of the Rack.

Operation
The probe of the Alarm is positioned at the desired location in the Rack e.g. back of the Server, near the Fans etc. The user sets the desired cut-off limit by using the dial provided.
Once the temperature rises above the cut-off limit the alarm goes-off continuously. Simultaneously the Voltage free NO/NC contacts also get activated. The NO/NC contacts can be used for connecting to NMS or any other system. The user can acknowledge the alarm(switch off the alarm) by pressing the reset switch. This implies that user has taken note of the situation and shall deal with it and there is no longer need of an alarm.
The user at this stage may switch on the additional fans etc. and bring down the temperature to the desired limits. Once the temperature goes down below the Cut-off limit, the alarm is automatically armed AGAIN. If the temperature goes up again beyond the cut-off limit then the alarm shall sound automatically, as before. This is a unique feature, specially designed keeping in mind this application.
